Fred Jones Building

Fred Jones Building / Golden Temple Grocery, Birmingham Festival Theatre, 1902 11th Avenue South, 1928, Miller & Martin.

This two -storey, lime stone faced building is the first in the Art Deco style built in Five Points by the R.S Munger Family, who had abandoned their house on the Circle and undertaken a commercial redevelopment of the area that set the style for subsequent building. This was built for Fred S. Jones, proprietor of a popular delicatessen and ice cream shop, its second floor arranged to accommodate, baking, salad making and ice-cream freezing. The golden temple and Festival Theatre are its long term modern occupants.
